Prior Aviation Service Inc. was formed in October 1961 by Jack B. Prior. Operating from the Greater Buffalo International Airport with leased facilities in the Buffalo Aeronautical hangars, the company originally provided helicopter and aircraft charter service and in mid 1961, the company entered the aircraft sales field. Early helicopter operations consisted of power line patrols, aerial photography, real estate and other various surveys, and some general barnstorming type of activities, including many years of operation at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix.

Prior Aviation Service established the first State and Federal approved flight school in the northeast United States that offered their students both fixed-wing and helicopter (rotary-wing) flight training. In the mid 1960's, Prior Aviation Service trained all the original helicopter pilots for the New York State Police.

In 1970 , Prior Aviation Service moved from the south side of the airport to the new general aviation area established by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) on the north side of the Greater Buffalo International Airport.

In June 1974 , Prior Aviation Service became the first Exxon Avitat in the northeast United States, offering the quality services associated with the Avitat name.

In March 1987 , Prior Aviation Service commenced the construction of a new aircraft hangar, shop, parts department and office facility on the north side of the airport. Approximately 22,000 square feet of high bay hangar area accommodates any of the new generation corporate jets. Over 7,000 square feet of office space, shop and parts areas are present to serve corporate aviation aircraft. Our corporate aircraft complex is located on a newly constructed five acre, heavy duty, aircraft parking area which includes new taxiway access from taxiway "Quebec".

In 1992 , Prior Aviation opened the current corporate and charter passenger terminal. This nicely appointed building has the amenities and services that travelers and pilots demand, such as a conference room and pilot lounge.

Prior Aviation Service provides services including fueling and ground handling to many of the scheduled airlines that operate from the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport.
